Need Affordable Pest Control? Use These Techniques

There is nothing more annoying than pests in your home. There are many different pests that might invade your home. They may be insects, vermin or other nuisances. Some types, such as termites, might even have the ability to damage your house. Here are some simple tips for dealing with pests.

Try using pesticides around the foundation of your home. Cover your home’s foundation, porch, steps and spaces near windows and doors. Look for cracks and small holes through which pests could enter your home. It can be very effective if you fill these spaces with caulk.

People that are experiencing trouble with pests that fly need to fix up every screen where they live. Screens not only protect your home from flying insects, they also help keep crawling insects from infiltrating your home. If you find holes in the screens, make repairs to keep the bugs out.

If your pipes are leaking, fix them as soon as possible. Pests gravitate toward sources of water. Some pests can actually sense that water is dripping from far away. Don’t bring on a pest invasion by your inaction. With a bit of effort, you can avoid attracting rodents in the first place.

Mint helps keep mice away. Plan mint around the perimeter of your house. This will make the mice find another home that has less aversive stimuli. If mice are already a problem, you may want to place mint leaves in the areas that are affected. This can repel the mice if the mint is fresh.

Keep mosquitoes away by getting rid of places where they like to stay. You should drain standing water before it stagnates. Mosquitoes will breed in tiny pools of water.

If you own a pet, refrain from using pesticides for mice or rats. Your dog could get sick from catching a poisoned rodent. You don’t want to have these types of traps when children are around either. Children can easily confuse the pellet shaped poisons as candy.

Store dry food items in plastic storage containers. You should take them out of the bag or box and put them in a plastic container. Transfer dried goods into sealed bags after every trip to the grocery store. Plastic containers help keep food fresher longer and prevents pests.

Your outdoor lights will attract pests. Move the outdoor lights away from your home’s entrances. Yellow and orange lights can be effective for thwarting bugs.

Recycling could cause pests. Place your recycle bin outside in a secure container. If you do not have room in your garage, make sure you rinse all the containers you want to recycle. Recycling bins that are sealed are the best choice to keep out pests of all sizes.

Eliminate wasp nests or bee hives during nighttime. You can use a can of spray foam (available at home improvement centers) to take care of unwanted bee hives. These foams can reach a long way and are great for killing bees from a safer distance. Beehives are best dealt with at night, as the bees are less active than they are during the day. Check the hive for two days, and then spray again if you need to. After you’re completely sure that all the bees have died, you can remove the hive.

Do not put off dealing with a pest problem. The best time to start dealing with it is now. Use what you’ve learned here to rid your home of pests once and for all. Keep these tips in mind and get rid of pests quickly.
